The Dolomites – UNESCO World Heritage Site

Nature’s unique creation

The Dolomites are often referred to as the ‘pale mountains’ due to the colour of the rock face. Reinhold Messner, world-renowned extreme mountaineer from South Tyrol, is delighted to call them ‘the most beautiful mountains in the world’. If you’ve ever holidayed in South Tyrol before, you’ll know what he means. Nowhere else will you find such a diverse and impressive mountain range.

So, it goes without saying that we have to protect this true wonder of nature. In the last few years, we have made an even more focussed effort to use natural resources. Now, for example, we limit the amount of outdoor lighting we use, so that we can reduce light pollution by emitting less artificial light. We have also completely switched over to using hydroelectricity from South Tyrolean sources and our kitchen uses as many local foodstuffs as it can. Maintaining the magnificent mountain world we live in is incredibly important to us.
This is why the South Tyrolean Dolomites, along with other mountain ranges, were added to the list of UNESCO world heritage sites in 2009.

In the summer, the South Tyrolean Dolomites morph into a veritable Garden of Eden, featuring…
  • hikes along the banks of streams which pass original, rustic farms and which bring you to brilliant viewing areas
  • walks to the mountain pastures, enticing you to indulge on a journey through the Dolomites
  • liberating summit tours which make you want to shout ‘I’m the king of the world!’
  • mountain bike paths which start right on our doorstep and end at the Passo Sella or Passo Gardena
  • climbing trips which allow you to feel the wild, high Alpine atmosphere first hand

In the winter, sports fans, families and romantic types can dive in to an unforgettable winter wonderland, which features…
  • magical sleigh rides through the original valleys and villages of the Dolomites
  • exciting sporting events, such as the Ski World Cup in Val Gardena, which draws stars to the region every year
  • pristinely prepared pistes, just 50m from the Interski Hotel in Val Gardena
  • charming cross-country ski tracks, far away from the pistes and cable cars, which invite you to embrace the winter countryside
  • comfortable hiking tracks, just waiting for you and your family to strap on your snowshoes and discover them
